Academy of Language and Culture - Centre for Translation (CTN)

https://ctn.hkbu.edu.hk

The Centre for Translation was established in 1994 as a university research unit and is currently under the Academy of Language and Culture. Committed to both academic research and fostering links with the translation profession and the community, the Centre aims to serve as a focal point for research in Translation and Interpreting Studies and to promote knowledge transfer through various consultancy projects.

The Centre actively engages in research activities, including academic publishing, seminars, conferences and research projects led by its fellows. In 2001, the Centre launched the “Translation Seminar Series”, which has been available online since 2020, to provide a platform for facilitating dialogue among scholars. To date, over 210 seminars have been organized, featuring more than 150 speakers. Over the years, the Centre has hosted research summer schools and various international conferences, such as the 6th IATIS Conference in 2018, the International Conference “Understanding Wikipedia’s Dark Matter” in 2021 and the HKBU International Conference on Interpreting series in 2017, 2021, and 2022.

The Centre is also dedicated to the translation profession and collaborates closely with the Department of Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies to provide students with valuable experience in professional translation.

This symposium is supported by the General Research Fund (GRF) of

Hong Kong’s Research Grants Council (Project No. 12623122).
